Persistance Run - VFF & BF
Walked a bunch of times; maybe 6 or 7 times. It’s okay though because I was treating like what I hear indigenous people do when they go on their persistant hunts; they’ll walk a little bit, maybe even stop to make sure they’re still on the trail of their prey before they run again. It was good since I didn’t run as frequently last week as I wanted to.
Anyway, I ran 2.2miles in VFF KSO’s then ran the last 1.2 miles BF. The reason for the change is that I was noticing that I could react the same to the road with the VFF’s as I have BF. I felt like I was pushing harder, legs were getting straight before landing, and my vision showed the horizon bouncing more, which was practically non-existant in my last 2.8 BF run at Greenlake. As soon as I took the KSO’s off I felt faster, and form fell into place.
So obviously lesson: going to need to learn to develop the technique for running in VFF’s for when it’s rainy/snowy and I still plan on running and will need to wear VFF’s.
I definitely prefer BF running now, even more so compared to running with any minimalistic wear. But I sure love wearing VFF’s casually. Going to have to force myself to go on a cold/rainy run with the KSO’s to see how that feels. If it’s tolerable…I may not need to purchase any Flows. We’ll see.

BF Playfields maintanence run
Only walked once. Overall good run. Much better lifting technique going up the little hill on the path. Trying to do more maintanence runs throughout the week and ending with a long run. But this week might not workout do to the rain. I’m not yet willing to deal with the cold just yet. I’m going to blame it on my island blood.

I’m Back!
Ran Greenlake non-stop with great form. For the first time when looking out to my eye line the image was steady so there was no pushing up from the legs just rolling and lifting; and also great lines for reverse arm swing, and knowing the range of motion for the lift while keeping a “bridge” with the knees. Breathing was also fantastic! Such a Great run that it was hard to believe I got done so fast! Totally Awesome

BF Playfields run
Really focused on the posture learned from a student who took a Feldenkrais class. It helped with staying relax, and I felt like my legs were rolling-on-along. Great run since I cut down time some more. I only stopped once. Probably could’ve gone one more lap (1/2 a mile), but would’ve been struggling to finished. Baby steps…but it’s great to see that I’m regaining things faster. Love Barefoot running!

VFF walk with my wife and son
Had a nice walk with my wife so she can also get back into working out. On the way back I started carrying my 7 month old to give “added weight resistance”. I started feeling it in my legs right in front of the house. It was good though! Great weather! Quality time with the family! and Productive!

Barefoot Run at Playfields
Good run today. I guess my last run was based off of the fact that I was running up hill, and possibly when I took my asthma medicine.
This time i took my medicine 10min ahead. And the run itself is not that hilly. So it was great to see 2min dropped from my last pace. And even better…the breathing wasn’t an issue during the run. I’m sure if I pushed to run more than I could handle it would’ve, but it was a good start.
My wife is taking advantage of this opportunity so that we can grow in pace and ability together since I’m practically starting over. We’ll run again on thursday…so I’m excited to be back into running.

VFF grocery run
Tonight I officially decided to really try to get things going so that I may hopefully be able to participate in the 1/2 marathon of the Seattle Rock’n Roll 1/2 marathon portion of the race.
However, after the short run tonight I think it’ll definitely be a long way due to all the development of my asthma problems which I think are due to being so sedentary during the winter as well as the odd early arrival of spring and my allergies.
I’m going to definitely have to do the next several runs at a track so that if there are any asthma attacks my wife can “come to my rescue”.
Todays run overall up the hill to Safeway was not bad form wise, and from the standpoint of my leg muscles. Just again the breathing. Had to stop a bunch of times. May have to resort to the interval training like i used to do at Greenlake. The good thing though, is that the breathing didn’t become a major issue until i just about reached the destination - the grocery store. So I decided to walk home and call it a good start.
We’ll see how things go. Hopefully I can get back into a regular training schedule and get things going.

Trying to come out of hibernation
So almost a week and a 1/2 ago nature seemed to show signs of a REALLY early spring. That’s great in the long run, but in the short run, that means for me…allergies. And apparently allergies that hit me so hard I had a bad asthma attack that caused me to have to go to the ER.
Anyway, I’ve been doing better, and decided that I wanted to try to get back out to running. So I decided to go BF at the old soccer pitch and see how I’d do.
Good news: form is still there!
Bad news: Gonna be a really long road back to where I was at my peak because of how bad my breathing is. I only was able to do two laps, and I still had to have a long break between the two with some puffs from the inhaler. Not cool.
So the goal is to get the breathing back to where I don’t need to use the inhaler (didn’t have to use it much at all last year). Then the next goal will be to get back to running performance at my peak. Then go for 3 miles non-stop with no problems, then finally start working towards getting 6.5 miles. It’s gonna be a long season, but I’m up for the challenge.
I guess the lesson will be to make sure that during the winter I do something that challenges my cardio like running did. Maybe I’ll use that time for basketball, or jumping rope?

VFF Trekin at Ravenna Park
Went for a short yet hilly trail stroll at Ravenna Park with my wife and baby.
Let me just say that it’s a great place to feel like getting away from the city without having to travel too far.
I think we’ll be going there more often.
